Thankfulness

a month of seeing God in my life

A month ago, I had shared my journey of being more thankful and in it, I mentioned a challenge in which I wanted to write out the things that I am thankful for, without using general “thanks” that I often use. I find it interesting this came around the time of Thanksgiving and that the Lord used this season to teach me more about what it means to cultivate a lifestyle of thankfulness.

Here is the list I’ve come up with:

  • the way the Lord is gentle in correction and guidance to continue to learn and grow in Him and who i am in Him; He does so without judgment or condemnation and it’s a beautiful thing to be His child
  • the small ways life is shown in the house; pots and pans not quite stacked the way I would because someone else did it for me
  • seeing the shift happen in real-time, where I am more conscious of appreciating and therefore more content because I’m not expecting something to happen or someone to do something
  • the way God brings people into my life that will pray for me, encourage me, and support me
  • noticing the moments of being present and how that brings warmth as I begin to look for those moments of just … being there and taking it in
  • answered prayers to specific requests—how the Lord cares even down to the details and will answer every aspect of specific prayers
  • for growth and change—even when it’s hard, and in some ways, hurts, to mature, but there is grace there, too
  • the way the Lord is able to build, restore, and repair relationships
  • the power of worship in song in the midst of a difficult time and feeling His presence in those moments
  • the way the Lord encourages me through other people’s stories and how God is working on their behalf. I have a God that cares about them as much as He cares about me.

If you joined me on this challenge, let me know! I hope you all have seen God’s goodness this Thanksgiving season. I pray we’ll continue to see Him working during the entire calendar year. Taking time to see Him in my life has been such a rewarding and encouraging experience—and I hope the same is true for you, as well. Remain steadfast in Him, friends.

Happy Thanksgiving!
